Custom UEFI and BIOS utilities for Aptio and AMIBIOS simplify the development and debug experience.
AMI's Aptio firmware offers an easy transition to the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) specification, giving developers all the advantages of UEFI - modularity, portability, C-based coding - while retaining easy-to-use tools that facilitate manufacturing and enhance productivity.
A flasher comes in multiple flavours: you have DOS and Windows versions and flashers specific for a BIOS brand (AMI, Award, ...) On Wim's BIOS you can find the bios update itself via your motherboard manufacturer.
Alternatively and easier, you can also download BIOS Agent Plus, a (spyware/adware free) tool to identify your motherboard manufacturer (among other hardware information).
With an Award BIOS Flasher (awdflash) you can flash an Award or Award/Phoenix BIOS from a DOS environment.
Because BIOS flashing is potentially risky, if you do not encounter problems using the current version of BIOS, it is recommended that you not flash the BIOS. Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction.

BIOS update utilities and files are often provided as files.
The BIOS updates work by booting the machine into DOS using a USB or floppy (Free DOS or MS-DOS) and then running an executable to reflash the BIOS.
