I just did a complete maps update from the Garmin website and it worked flawlessly. I tried and tried to do it via Wine but I got stuck as you did. Garmin have made a number of changes to their map update procedures in the last year.If your GPS has LMT in the description is because Life Time updates are included already (no extra charge). One you got this, you install Garmin software from their website and you get the updates whenever you want.
This process is painless, straightforward and the cheapest solution.
For those with newer devices these changes have made it much simpler, for others it can still be a painful process with numerous calls to Garmin technical support.
Even with several years of updating various models of Garmin sat-navs, I have found the experience torturous at times.
In order to avoid using windows for updating the maps for my Garmin nvi 265w I have done as follows: - installed wine - installed Firefox for Windows in wine - installed the garmin communicator plugin 184.108.40.206 So far so good.
And when the gps is plugged in via usb it does as a matter of fact show up as .wine/dosdevices/h: But the communicator plugin does not recognize it. I have tried google and the search function in this forum, but all solutions seem to recommend windows in virtualbox, which I would rather avoid.
